The relationship between toxoplasmosis, caused by the parasite Toxoplasma gondii, and cancer of all types; A doctoral dissertation

A doctoral dissertation at the College of Medicine, Al-Qadisiyah University, entitled “The Relationship Between Toxoplasmosis (caused by the parasite Toxoplasma gondii) and All Types of Cancer,” was conducted by researcher Noor Nabil Abbas and supervised by Professor Dr. Ghada Basil Al-Ameeshi.

The study examined the relationship between toxoplasmosis (caused by the parasite Toxoplasma gondii) and all types of cancer. Fifty samples were taken from cancer patients at the Oncology Hospital affiliated with Baghdad’s Medical City. A correlation was observed between toxoplasmosis and an increased likelihood of developing cancer in patients carrying this parasite. The study found that the parasite weakens the immune system of infected individuals, leading to reduced protection from the immune system and potentially causing genetic mutations that can lead to cancer.

The study recommended preventing infection with this parasite whenever possible, as it increases the risk of developing cancer.
