The Master’s thesis, titled “Evaluating the Effectiveness of the Alcoholic Extract of Tobacco Leaf (Nicotiana tabacum) in Controlling the Biting Louse Parasitizing Local Chickens in Laboratory Testing,” was submitted by researcher Shaimaa Abid Yasseen and supervised by Professor Dr. Abbas Kadhim Hamza.

The thesis aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the alcoholic extract of dried tobacco leaf powder in controlling external parasites, including lice, and to compare its effectiveness with that of chemical pesticides.

Key Conclusions: The study results showed that external parasites have a clear negative impact on the productive performance of local chickens. Infestation led to a decrease in the daily weight gain rate before treatment. The tobacco leaf extract proved effective in controlling external parasites, contributing to improved live weight and growth rates after treatment compared to the pre-treatment stage.

Important  Recommendations: It is recommended to use tobacco leaf extract at various concentrations to achieve the optimal concentration that yields the highest efficacy with the fewest side effects. Different application methods are also recommended. It can be used as an effective natural pesticide to control external parasites affecting domestic chickens, leading to increased weight and improved growth.
