A Master’s thesis at the College of Veterinary Medicine, Al-Qadisiyah University, entitled “Molecular Detection of Feline Calicivirus in Domestic Cats in Al-Diwaniyah City,” was conducted by researcher Diaa Abbas Majeed and supervised by Professor Dr. Qasim Halim Kashash.

The study, in the field of internal medicine, aimed to detect feline calicivirus in cats in Al-Diwaniyah Governorate and to study the hematological and chemical changes associated with the disease.

The study reached several important conclusions, most notably the partial diagnosis of the virus causing the disease in cats, with an infection rate of 16%. The infection rate was higher in older cats, and infected cats showed a significant increase in body temperature, respiratory rate, and pulse rate compared to the moderate and mild groups and the control group.

The study recommended the importance of vaccinating domestic cats to prevent infection. For infected cats, isolation and a specific treatment regimen should be adopted to reduce the severity of the infection and prevent the spread of the disease.
