The Master’s thesis, titled “A Comparative Study of Some Physiological and Immunological Indicators in Women with Breast Cancer Undergoing Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy,” was submitted to the Department of Life Sciences at the College of Science, Al-Qadisiyah University. The thesis was presented by researcher Banin Qasim Mahmoud and supervised by Professor Dr. Rasha Muzahim Hatem.

The thesis aimed to evaluate the effect of chemotherapy and radiotherapy on a selection of hematological, biochemical, and immunological indicators in breast cancer patients. Specifically, the study sought to assess changes in liver and kidney function indicators and investigate changes in immunological markers, including IL-6, IL-10, and IFN-α, and to determine the relationships between these indicators compared to healthy individuals.

The most important recommendation is the periodic monitoring of liver function in breast cancer patients, particularly during radiotherapy, with the use of IL-6, IL-10, and IFN-α measurements as supporting immunological markers in diagnosis and clinical follow-up. Further studies are also recommended. Larger samples and different disease stages are needed to confirm current findings and assess the diagnostic and prognostic value of IFN-α.

Furthermore, longitudinal studies are recommended to monitor changes in cytokine levels before, during, and after treatment, along with investigating additional immunological and molecular markers and their relationship to tumor stage, grade, treatment response, and survival rates. This will contribute to improving early diagnosis and prognostic assessment of breast cancer.
