The Department of Civil Engineering at the College of Engineering, Al-Qadisiyah University, discussed a Master’s thesis entitled “Improving the Mechanical Properties of Fiber-Reinforced Foam Concrete” by researcher Ali Karim Balasim, supervised by Professor Dr. Adnan Falih Hassan.
The thesis aimed to develop lightweight foam concrete and improve its mechanical properties by optimizing the mix design using systematic methods. Polypropylene fibers, alkali-resistant glass fibers, and silica fume were used as partial cement substitutes, and silica sand as a complete substitute for ordinary sand, in addition to a synthetic foaming agent and a controlled foam production system.
The thesis also included the successful integration of foam concrete mix development and foam production control techniques, using local materials and fiber reinforcement, to achieve a lightweight and improved foam concrete that combines high performance and durability.
