A scientific seminar on work-life balance for women in the healthcare sector.


The College of Medicine at Al-Qadisiyah University, in cooperation with the Iraqi Board for Medical Specialties – the Scientific Council for Obstetrics and Gynecology, and under the supervision of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, held a scientific seminar entitled:

“Work-Life Balance for Women in the Healthcare Sector.” The seminar was presented by the Head of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Branch at the College of Medicine, Professor Dr. Yasmin Hamza Sharif.

The seminar was attended by the University President, the Director of the Maternity and Children’s Teaching Hospital, Dr. Aqeel Kamel, and a number of physicians and healthcare professionals, as well as specialist and resident physicians. The seminar discussed the most prominent challenges facing working women in the healthcare sector and mechanisms for achieving a balance between professional duties and family life, contributing to enhanced psychological and social stability and improved professional performance. The symposium emphasized the importance of providing a supportive work environment for women working in healthcare institutions, given their pivotal role in developing medical services and improving healthcare standards. It also stressed the need to consider the human and social aspects that contribute to achieving balance and stability within the family.

Symposium Objectives:

– To highlight the professional and family challenges facing women in the healthcare sector.

– To promote the concept of work-life balance and its impact on mental health and job performance.

– To support and empower working women to fulfill their professional and family roles in a balanced manner.

– To raise awareness of the importance of providing a flexible and supportive work environment within healthcare institutions.

– To exchange scientific and social experiences related to improving the quality of life for working women.

The symposium recommended the following:
– The necessity of adopting psychological and social support programs for women working in the healthcare sector.

– Strengthening institutional policies that contribute to achieving work-life balance.

– Holding regular workshops and seminars that focus on women’s psychological, social, and professional well-being.

– Providing a flexible work environment that respects the privacy and family circumstances of working women. – Encouraging studies and research related to the reality of women in the health sector and the challenges they face.
