A Scientific Seminar on Suicide Prevention at the College of Law, Al-Qadisiyah University

The Educational and Psychological Counseling Unit, in cooperation with the Rehabilitation and Employment Unit at the College of Law, Al-Qadisiyah University, held a scientific seminar entitled “A Day of Hope for Suicide Prevention – A Psychological, Social, and Legal Approach.” The seminar featured presentations by Asst. Prof. Dr. Layla Hamza Radhi, Asst. Lec. Rasel Majid Kadhim, and Asst. Lec. Noor Sami Dakhel.

The seminar aimed to raise community awareness about the dangers of suicide and its psychological, social, and legal impacts. It also highlighted psychological factors such as depression, anxiety, and behavioral disorders that can lead to suicide. Furthermore, it analyzed the social dimension through the roles of the family, school, media, and civil society in prevention.

The seminar concluded that suicide is often not the result of a single cause, but rather the outcome of a complex interaction between psychological disorders such as depression and anxiety, and life’s pressures.  In addition to a lack of awareness about mental health, which leads to delays in seeking help, thus increasing the severity of cases, early psychological support and therapeutic intervention contribute significantly to reducing suicide rates.
