The Surgery Department at the College of Medicine, Al-Qadisiyah University, held a workshop entitled “Updates in Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP),” presented by Dr. Sarah Abbas Al-Shamarti.

The workshop aimed to raise awareness of the importance of early diagnosis of ROP, familiarize physicians with the disease mechanisms and risk factors, and improve early detection and timely screening skills to help prevent vision loss in premature infants.

The workshop recommended the timely screening of at-risk premature infants, adherence to early detection programs, and the use of modern retinal imaging techniques for accurate diagnosis. It emphasized that early treatment plays a crucial role in preserving vision and reducing complications.
