A seminar titled “Gene Expression of Myosin 16 in the Respiratory System of the Euphrates Jerboa” was held at the College of Veterinary Medicine under the slogan “From Mesopotamia… Ideas Take Off,” as part of the Global Entrepreneurship Week Festival. The seminar was presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Abdul Razzaq Baqir Kadhim. The seminar aimed to understand the potential functional role of the myosin 16 protein in the respiratory system of the Euphrates jerboa and how its unique adaptation to desert environments might be related.
Key recommendations included discussing the MYH16 gene sequence in the jerboa and comparing it to sequences in other species (other rodents, mammals in general), analyzing the different isophores of the myosin 16 protein expressed in respiratory tissues (such as the nose, trachea, bronchi, and lungs), and determining the pattern and location of protein expression in respiratory cells (such as ciliated cells, goblet cells, and smooth muscles of the airways) using techniques such as immunohistochemistry.
