In cooperation with the Educational and Psychological Counseling Unit at the College of Law, a scientific symposium was held, entitled “Psychological Stress and its Effects on the Increase in Suicide.” Presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Sundus Muhammad Abbas and Assistant Professor Dr. Laila Hamza Radhi.
The symposium aimed to explain the concept of psychological stress, its types, and sources in individual and societal life. It also aimed to clarify the relationship between psychological disorders and the increasing rates of suicide, particularly among young people. It also highlighted the role of health and educational institutions in early detection of psychological disorders. It also played a role in promoting a culture of mental health awareness and the importance of psychological and social support to prevent suicidal behavior.
The symposium recommended the establishment of counseling and psychological centers in universities and schools to provide early psychological support, activating community awareness programs that contribute to eliminating the stigma associated with mental illness, and training educational and healthcare personnel on skills to deal with suicidal psychological crises. It also recommended encouraging scientific research in the field of mental health and suicide to develop national prevention strategies.
