The difference between theoretical and applied research in legal studies; A scientific workshop.

As part of the program to develop graduate students’ research skills, the College of Law at Al-Qadisiyah University organized a specialized scientific workshop entitled “The Difference Between Theoretical and Applied Research in Legal Studies.” Professor Dr. Ahmed Hamdallah Ahmed lectured and the workshop was moderated by lecturer Dr. Ali Hamza Jabr.

The workshop aimed to clarify the fundamental differences between theoretical and applied research in the field of legal research, and to highlight the importance of each in building legal knowledge and formulating solutions to real-life problems. It also aimed to guide graduate students in choosing the most appropriate approach for the nature of their research topics.

The most important conclusions were that theoretical research focuses on analyzing legal texts and rules and producing abstract knowledge, while applied research focuses on studying practical reality and applying rules to concrete facts. Combining the two approaches contributes to enriching legal studies and achieving a balance between theory and practice.

The workshop recommended the need to encourage graduate students to undertake applied research that addresses contemporary legal problems and enhances  The practical aspect of postgraduate curricula, in addition to holding similar workshops focused on developing legal research and analysis skills.
