Preparation of new anti-cancer and anti-oxidant derivatives of compounds; Ph.D thesis.

A doctoral thesis at the College of Science at Al-Qadisiyah University discussed the preparation of new anti-cancer and anti-oxidant derivatives of compounds.

A doctoral thesis was discussed in the Chemistry Department at the College of Science at Al-Qadisiyah University, entitled “Preparation of new anti-cancer and anti-oxidant derivatives of heterocyclic (tetra-, pent-, hex-, and hepta-) compounds and some new formazan derivatives, and conducting a molecular docking study of them.” The thesis was presented by researcher Abdul Sattar Hashim Abdul Ghani, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Mu’ayyad Nima Muhammad and Prof. Dr. Muqdad Arhim Kazim

The study aimed to synthesize some new Schiff bases and formazan derivatives and characterize them using spectroscopic methods such as FT-IR, 1H-NMR, and 13C-NMR. The study then examined their biological activity and tested them as antioxidants and anticancer agents.

The results showed that all compounds exhibited good antibacterial activity against Gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus (G+) and Gram-negative Escherichia coli (G-) bacteria, as well as antifungal activity against Candida albicans. Some of these derivatives also exhibited antioxidant activity.

The thesis recommended conducting expanded studies to evaluate the effects of a larger number of the synthesized compounds and test them against other types of cancer. It also recommended the use of green chemistry methods to prepare these compounds as alternatives to chemical solvents, thus contributing to a cleaner environment.
