The thesis was discussed at the Department of Economics at the College of Administration and Economics at Al-Qadisiyah University. it was presented by researcher Iman Nima Al-Mahna, under the supervision of experienced professor Dr. Salem Abdul Hassan Rasan.
The thesis aimed to address several issues, including identifying the reality of poverty among vulnerable groups in Iraq, namely children, women, the elderly, people with disabilities, refugees, and ethnic and religious minorities. It also aimed to identify the role of the social security system in reducing poverty among vulnerable groups.
The most important conclusions were that the rate of child poverty and the rate of children suffering from malnutrition are much higher than comparable global rates. The unemployment rate is twice the globally accepted unemployment rate. Population growth rates are high compared to the global average, and the aid index reached 70%, which is higher than the globally accepted average.
The most important recommendations include adopting an integrated national strategy to address this vulnerability. It also recommended implementing an annual survey on the number of individuals who should be covered by social care, working to reduce the high dependency ratio by creating job opportunities for youth and women, and the need to increase the number of social care units and support and develop the sector. Vocational education, providing support and assistance centers for women, and developing the health sector infrastructure in Diwaniyah Governorate.
