Two lecturers at the College of Medicine at Al-Qadisiyah University performed a rare operation on a child suffering from a congenital fistula in the bladder.


Assistant Professor Ahmed Ali Al-Hamzawi and Assistant Professor Rami Imad Ayal, lecturers at the Departments of General Surgery and Pediatrics at the College of Medicine at Al-Qadisiyah University, performed a rare operation on a child suffering from a congenital fistula in the bladder. This unique surgical procedure is considered a rare and unique procedure.
The operation was performed on a child suffering from recurrent urinary tract infections. The medical team diagnosed a congenital fistula in the bladder (patent urachus), a rare congenital deformity resulting from the failure of the urethra to fully close during fetal development, leaving the urethra open at the navel.
The operation was performed successfully at Al-Diwaniyah Teaching Hospital, and the fistula was removed. The child’s health has since returned to normal.
