A PhD thesis from the College of Science at Al-Qadisiyah University by researcher Ruqayyah Taher Habash, under the supervision of Professor Dr. Duha Mahdi Jaber.
The study aimed to prepare antimicrobial adjuvant compounds (Human Beta-Defensin 3 and 2-Aminoimidazole) and test their effectiveness with selected antibiotics.
The results showed that mixing these compounds with ampicillin-sulbactam and imipenem resulted in a significant increase in the effectiveness of these antibiotics against resistant bacteria.
The most important recommendations are to strengthen antibiotic stewardship programs, conduct sensitivity testing before prescribing treatment, reduce the use of highly resistant antibiotics and replace them with effective alternatives. Additionally, it is important to develop adjuvant therapies such as hBD-3 and 2-Aminoimidazole, evaluate their effectiveness with other antibiotics and their optimal doses in the laboratory and in animal models, study the impact of environmental factors on them, and establish a national database to accurately track resistance patterns.
Use of selected compounds as adjuvants to increase the effectiveness of antibiotics against multidrug-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii isolated from clinical samples. PhD. Thesis.
