The doctoral dissertation, titled “Traditional and Molecular Diagnosis of Some External Parasites in Fish in the City of Diwaniyah,” was conducted at the College of Veterinary Medicine, Al-Qadisiyah University, by researcher Hiba Turki Atiyah, under the supervision of Professor Dr. Numan Naji Ayez and Professor Dr. Ali Adnan Radif.
The study aimed to conduct a survey to identify external parasites that may infect freshwater fish in the Diwaniyah River using traditional diagnostic methods and molecular techniques, as well as genetic analysis to confirm the specific parasite species.
The study concluded that external parasite infections were more prevalent among fish species in the city of Diwaniyah, indicating a widespread presence of these parasites in the local aquatic environment. The infection rate varied among fish species, with the common carp (Cyprinu carpio) exhibiting the highest infection rate, reflecting differences in susceptibility and the influence of environmental and seasonal factors on the occurrence of external parasite infections.
