Top Spot in International Competition.

In a remarkable achievement that underscores the esteemed academic standing of the College of Law at Al-Qadisiyah University, its students have added another shining page to the record of academic excellence. The college team secured first place for Best Written Legal Memorandum in the Jessup Moot Court Competition, an international moot court competition in public international law.

The team competed against students from several Iraqi universities, and their submissions were evaluated by a specialized international judicial panel. This adds significant academic value to the victory and demonstrates our students’ ability to compete according to the highest international standards.

The team comprised the distinguished students Amjad Sattar, Mohammed Dhia, and Huda Ghathith, under the supervision of Assistant Professor Basil Ali. They underwent a rigorous and systematic training program that combined in-depth legal analysis, argumentation building, and persuasive legal drafting skills. The result reflects the team spirit, academic discipline, and belief that excellence is achieved through determination and meticulous work.

The Jessup Competition, which began in 1960, is the largest and most prestigious academic competition in the field of public international law. Students from about 700 law schools representing more than 100 countries participate annually. The competition is based on simulating a hypothetical international dispute between two countries presented before the International Court of Justice, with the preparation of two written legal briefs and oral arguments before arbitration panels that include judges, academics and specialized practitioners. It is organized globally by the International Law Students Association, ensuring uniform academic standards and rigorous evaluation.
