A postgraduate diploma thesis from the College of Veterinary Medicine at Al-Qadisiyah University examined the bovine immunodeficiency virus (BIV).
A postgraduate diploma thesis titled “Bovine Immunodeficiency Virus (BIV) – A Comprehensive Study” was conducted at the College of Veterinary Medicine at Al-Qadisiyah University by researcher Ahmed Mohammed Abdul-Kazem, under the supervision of Professor Dr. Asaad Jassim Abdul.
The most important conclusions are that the disease is widespread throughout the world at varying rates. Confirmed cases have also been recorded in countries neighboring Iraq, increasing the likelihood of the virus being transmitted through imported or contact animals. The disease is a chronic disease that is difficult to diagnose based solely on clinical symptoms. Local studies on the virus in Iraq are still limited.
The most important recommendations are to conduct advanced immunological and molecular studies to diagnose BIV in Iraq and determine its genetic patterns. It is also necessary to include the disease in national epidemiological surveillance programs, and to require veterinary authorities to conduct periodic examinations of imported cattle.
