Digital Education and Its Role in Countering the Culture of Triviality in Virtual Society: A Field Study in the City of Diwaniyah; A master’s thesis.

A master’s thesis from the College of Arts at Al-Qadisiyah University was conducted by researcher Haider Karim Lafta and supervised by Professor Thaer Rahim Kazim.

The study aimed to identify digital education and its basic components, demonstrate its importance in the digital age, analyze the emergence and spread of the culture of triviality on digital platforms and its impact on social and cultural values, and explore the contribution of digital education to reducing the spread of superficial phenomena and meaningless content in virtual society. It also explores the role of digital education in enhancing critical thinking skills and the ability to distinguish between useful and superficial content. It also highlights the role of digital education in disseminating ethical and social values that promote meaningful content and digital responsibility.

The most important recommendations are for the Ministry of Education to include the values and behaviors of digital education within the curricula and academic programs offered to students, provided that these are delivered using appropriate methods and strategies. The study also aims to establish institutions that support digital education.  Social upbringing, especially within the family, protects children from intellectual and moral pollutants by selecting appropriate digital content to prepare them for a civilized interaction with the rapid changes in technology. The Ministry of Communications should create websites dedicated to disseminating digital education principles, publishing reports, and holding awareness sessions on the methods and techniques for dealing with inappropriate content. Regulatory and legislative bodies, specifically the Iraqi Parliament, should enact and legislate laws that limit and promote the culture of triviality.
