Master’s student Nisreen Muzeher Majhoul discussed her thesis tagged (Design and implementation of an accurate system for identifying the iris of the eye) under the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Ali Mohsen Muhammad
The study aimed to design an accurate biometric system to be very effective in identifying a person through iris images that were taken and used in various fields such as security fields and national identity programs to verify the identities of people. The iris of the eye was used because the iris tissue contains unique and permanent information that does not change. Over time, it is protected from the influence of external factors, and the iris of the right eye differs from the left eye, as well as for twins
The study proposed two models to improve the recognition performance of iris images in the cross spectrum. In the beginning, the pre-processing of the iris images taken in different fields, whether they are (NIR, VIS) images, was performed to reduce the illumination contrast using DCT-Normalization, and then extract the important characteristics in the iris images (NIR). , VIS) using the Histogram of Oriented Gradients (HOG) approach.
