Al-Qadisiyah University Organizes Workshop to Enhance Safety Procedures and Response to Nuclear and Radiological Emergencies

Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Rahi Kalaf Mahdi Al-Yasiri, President of Al-Qadisiyah University, and the supervision of Professor Dr. Sattar Abdul-Hassan Al-Fatlawi, Assistant President for Scientific Affairs, and in cooperation with Professor Dr. Sattar Hamid Al-Janabi, Dean of the College of Education, the Chemical, Biological, and Radiological Safety and Security Division at the University Presidency, in cooperation with the National Nuclear, Radiological, Chemical, and Biological Regulatory Authority, organized a workshop entitled:

“Enhancing Safety Procedures and Preparedness and Response to Nuclear and Radiological Emergencies and Transboundary Threats.”

The workshop was held in Al-Farahidi Hall in the Arabic Language Department at the College of Education, with the participation of representatives from the Al-Qadisiyah Provincial Council and a number of relevant government departments and institutions.

The two-day workshop aimed to enhance the preparedness of government institutions in dealing with nuclear and radiological emergencies, introduce the functions of the Central Emergency Room and the Higher Committee for Radiological Emergencies, and explain the coordination mechanisms among supporting entities according to the National Emergency Response Plan. The workshop also included specialized lectures presented by experts from the National Authority, covering the National Nuclear and Radiological Emergency Plan, the monitoring and early warning system, and mechanisms for responding to nuclear and radiological incidents. Discussions also addressed the responsibilities of emergency committees in the governorates and ways to enhance institutional coordination and improve preparedness.

The workshop concluded with a set of recommendations emphasizing the importance of developing response plans, strengthening cooperation among government institutions, and promoting a culture of radiation protection and safety, thereby contributing to the protection of society and the environment and enhancing the national security and safety system.
