The thesis was presented by researcher Asaad Aboud Hanin and supervised by Assistant Professor Dr. Raed Kadhim Abdul-Asadi.

The thesis aimed to obtain and prepare specific types of local macroalgae in their dried form as a bioadsorbent. It also aimed to evaluate the ability of these dried algae species (under study) to remove selected pollutants present in wastewater, and to investigate the effect of initial concentration, temperature, and contact time on removal efficiency.

The study’s main conclusions demonstrated the success of dried Cladophora algae in removing chromium (99.56%), lead (95.72%), and nickel (92.27%), making it a superior bioremediation alternative to many expensive chemicals. The study also revealed the role of the dead biomass of the algae. Essential in reducing the biological oxygen demand (BOD) by up to 92.91% as a final biofilter.

Key recommendations: Adopt Cladophora algae powder as a final biofilter in the final sedimentation basins at the Rumaytha plant and similar plants due to its high capacity for trapping pollutants and metals that conventional treatment cannot remove. Maintaining the pH value within the alkaline range (pH 10) is crucial to ensure maximum efficiency in heavy metal removal.

The Master’s thesis, titled “Bioremediation of Some Wastewater Pollutants Using Dried Algae,” was submitted to the Department of Life Sciences … Read More

[25

post-4377","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news
["GET
