The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the College of Engineering, Al-Qadisiyah University, discussed a Master’s thesis entitled “Deployment of Photovoltaic Solar Energy Systems on Building Rooftops at the City Level to Support the Grid and Achieve Net Zero Electricity Costs: A Case Study of Diwaniyah City, Iraq,” by researcher Muqtada Abbas Obaid, supervised by Professor Dr. Alaa Layeq Hashim and Professor Dr. Ahmed Abdul Kadhim Majhoul.<\/p>\n
The thesis addressed one of the most prominent problems facing Iraqi cities: the persistent shortage of electricity supply and the widespread reliance on private generators, along with the accompanying economic burdens and environmental emissions.<\/p>\n
The study’s findings showed that the decision to adopt solar energy in Diwaniyah is not solely related to technical aspects, but is clearly influenced by economic factors, trust in companies and institutions, availability of financing, and the desire of families to reduce their dependence on the grid and generators.<\/p>\n
The thesis concluded that a hybrid solar system with a capacity of 3 kilowatts and a 5 kilowatt-hour battery represents the most suitable option. The study considered the assumed load from all aspects, as it achieves the best balance between cost, payback period, reduced reliance on generators, economic feasibility, and actual utilization of the produced energy.<\/p>\n
The thesis concluded that deploying residential solar energy systems in Iraq requires a comprehensive vision that includes government support, facilitated loans, regulation of the solar energy market, and the adoption of mechanisms such as net metering or feed-in tariffs, in addition to raising community awareness and ensuring the quality of companies and components used.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
